Event Description

More than 100 teams took part in the 5K Team Challenge in Liverpool city centre!

Liverpool Law Society and Liverpool Chamber of Commerce joined together to support the 2011 5K Team Challenge which took place around Liverpool's waterfront on Sunday 4th September.  Over 100 teams lined up at the start line to run the 5 kilometre course. The runners were treated to a sunny day with supporters clapping and cheering them along the way. They were awarded medals at the finish line by representatives from the two Liverpool Law Society nominated charities: Paula Widdison represented the Liverpool Mombasa Access to Justice Charity and Peter Davies OBE was there on behalf of Rotary's Life Education (Wirral) charity.

Money raised from this year's event will be donated to two charities:

  • The Life Education Wirral

This local charity provides mobile classrooms to deliver a series of health and drug education programmes appropriate to children from the age of three to help children appreciate the value of good health and recognise the risks associated with all drugs, including tobacco and alcohol.

  •  The Liverpool Mombasa Access to Justice Project

This project is looking to supplement the resources for representation of children in Mombasa by the provision of funding of one permanent lawyer to represent the children in court which currently is only covered on an ad hoc basis by pro bono lawyers.

The structure of the 5k Team Challenge requires teams of four taking part with their finishing times added together to provide a cumulative team time. The lowest time is the winner.

Congratulations to all those who took part and to the winners of the Liverpool Law Society prizes who come from the legal sector:

  • First Female from the Legal Profession is Laura Tipping from Cobleys in a time of 22.50
  • First Male from the Legal Profession is Matt Smith from Weightmans in a time of 17.55
  • First Team from the Legal Profession goes to EAD Solicitors and their team EAD 1, Sarah Armstrong, Tom Pye, Chris McNaughton and Charles Boulton in a combined time of 1 hour 27 minutes, 31 seconds.
  • Most money raised by a team from the Legal Profession - to be announced

Thank you for taking part and supporting this event.  Please forward your sponsorship money to Liverpool Law Society as soon as possible.
