Event Description
The Final of Liverpool Law Society’s 2010 Merseyside Schools Public Speaking Competition took place on Monday 1st March 2010 in the Council Chamber at the prestigious Liverpool Town Hall.
The Lord Mayor, committee members and Past Presidents of the Society, solicitors, teachers, pupils and their families came together to enjoy an evening of public speaking from a group of very talented young rising stars.
The schools competing in the final were:
Archbishop Blanch High School
Liverpool College
Calday Grange Grammar School
The Belvedere Academy
The pupils, aged 13 to 15 years, presented a piece on the subject “16 is too young to vote at a general election” which was judged by Mr Richard Paton, President of Liverpool Law Society, Mr Roger Phillips, BBC Radio Merseyside presenter and Mr David Lewis a partner at Weightmans, sponsors of the event.
Following the presentations the judges announced that the winners of the 2010 trophy sponsored by Weightmans were Victoria Atherton & Olivia Beesley from Archbishop Blanch High School. Members and guests went on to enjoy the canapés and drinks reception while chatting to those who took part and their supporters.
