Nigerian Legal Services Trade Delegation
On 2nd December 2009, Liverpool Law Society welcomed to Liverpool a Nigerian Legal Services Trade Delegation. In the country for a week, and having spent two days in London, they came north to Liverpool to see what real life is like!
I welcomed 25 people to the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce (sadly, (and happily) the Cotton Exchange was full for teaching purposes), and was assisted by the Vice President, Andrew Holroyd and representatives from Weightmans and Jackson & Canter.
The Delegation had a busy day, a networking lunch being followed by some interesting seminars on International Trade & Finance and Maritime & Marine, and much discussion.
The day ended with a Reception at Hill Dickinson. The exercise seemed successful, and the Nigerian lawyers expressed very positive views of our city. There are real opportunities to do business with them. They have a mature legal market and system and a fast developing economy.
Many thanks to The Law Society of England and Wales (and in particular the International Department) for organising the event. It continues our fine association with African legal systems, following our twinning with Mombasa Law Society in 2009. Thanks also to the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce for hosting the initial welcome.
