Event Description

 

Record numbers attended this year’s AGM at Liverpool Law Society offices to see four new members elected on to the General Committee, Caroline Ashcroft of Weightmans, Alison Beech of Percy Hughes & Roberts, Jayne MacGregor of Lees Solicitors and Liza Watson of Heaney Watson.
 
With the formal proceedings over the President, Charlie Jones presented a special Lifetime Achievement Award to Professor E. Rex Makin in recognition of over 60 years in the legal profession. Professor Makin accepted the award and addressed the members outlining the changes that were taking place in the profession today.
 
Prizes were then awarded to candidates in recognition of their achievements in professional examinations as follows:

Alex Richardson, DAL Piper (UK)                    Atkinson Prize
Jennifer Jones, Heaney Watson                     Enoch Harvey Prize
Charlotte Jones, Hill Dickinson                       Rupert Bremner Prize
 
Also being awarded a prize was Kerry Louise Russell who received the E. Rex Makin prize for being the youngest Solicitor to be admitted to the Roll and Julie O’Hare received the Muir Matthews prize for the trainee solicitor who has made the largest contribution on an all-round basis.
 
With the AGM at a close the members were invited to enjoy a wine and canapés reception which allowed them the opportunity to mingle, making new acquaintances and renewing old!
The President called a pause to events to present the prizes for the 5k Team Challenge which took place on 20th September 2009 with over 74 legal teams taking part. This event was run in aid of Nugent Care and nearly £5,000 was raised in total. The winners of the divisional prizes were:
                       
  • First female from the Legal Community was awarded to Cat Oakes from Lees and Partners with a time of 23.09
  • First male from the Legal Community was awarded to Matthew Smith also from Lees and Partners with a time of 16.24
  • First Legal Team went to EAD1, the members of that team were Sarah Armstrong, Thom Vaughan, Chris McNaughton and Greg Dudley.
  • Most Money Raised for Nugent Care by a Legal Profession Team was the President’s Team, All the President’s Friends, and the prize was accepted by Charlie Jones, President, himself!
 
The President extended his congratulations to all the prize winners and thanked the sponsors of the reception, Laird Assessors, for their valued and continued support to Liverpool Law Society.
