The Society’s Area constitutes the City of Liverpool, the Metropolitan Boroughs of Wirral, Knowsley, St. Helens and Sefton; and Widnes and Neston in the County of Cheshire.

The different Categories of membership of the Society are:
(A) Full membership – any solicitor who holds a current practising certificate; any solicitor on the Roll who has retired from practice; any barrister; any Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives; any registered foreign or European lawyer who is regulated by an Approved Regulator; any person holding a judicial appointment or teaching law; any trainee solicitor; any patent attorney; any licensed conveyancer; any notary public; any trade mark attorney; pupil barristers; and subject to Article 29, any person who is in a senior position at an organisation providing legal services which is subject to supervision by an Approved Regulator and who is approved by the Committee practising or employed within the Area shall be eligibe to be Full Members of the Society with voting rights.
(B) Affiliated membership – legal apprentices; Paralegals; and other persons who to the satisfaction of the Committee, are actively involved in supervising or managing legal services who are practising or working in the Area shall be eligible to be members without voting rights.
(C) Associated membership – Any other member of or person connected with the legal profession (including but not limited to, as the Committee shall in its sole discretion determine, judges, magistrates, other officials of the local courts, Bar students, or trainee legal executives) may apply to become an associated member of the Society in accordance with Article 28.1.4., without voting rights.
